The term A-1 or A1 credit is a rating of financial strength of companies and other entities issuing bonds and other forms of debt. The exact meaning of the term varies, but is a general indication of financial strength. Standard & Poor's uses the term A-1 when rating an insurer's ability to meet debt obligations in the short term. They assign a numerical score called a FICO score, which is based on how well you manage your debt. The highest score consumers can achieve is 850. A credit rating is an evaluation of the credit risk of a prospective debtor (an individual, a business, company or a government), predicting their ability to pay back the debt, and an implicit forecast of the likelihood of the debtor defaulting.
